$2000+, Windows. Best for Hardcore gaming, VR. This is a beast. It has a 17.3" FHD Anti-Glare Wide View Angle 120Hz 5ms 94% NTSC 1920x1080 display, an Intel Core i7-6820HK Quad Core Processor and NVIDIA's latest Dual GeForce GTX1070 with 16GB GDDR5. It comes with 64GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM, a Super RAID 4 512GB SSD and a 1TB 7200rpm hard drive. If your looking for a gaming laptop that will take anything you through at it, this is it. It was a PCMag editors choice but, at almost 11 pounds, it probably won't be something you want to lug around everywhere.

$200-$300, Windows. Best for: Web browsing, office. This would be an excellent choice for the budget conscience person who still wants to be productive on the go. It is by no means a powerhouse, but the Celeron processor will do just fine for web browsing and office tasks and it sports a 9 hour battery life.

$300-$400, Windows. Best for: College, web browsing, light gaming. The E 15 is a nice, budget friendly laptop that would be great for a student. It features a battery life of 7-10 hours, has a backlit keyboard, full HD 15.6" screen and is easily upgradable. It has a good internal GPU which is the best you are going to find in this price range for light gaming.

$400-500, Windows. Best for: College, web browsing, light gaming. This Asus is easily portable at just over 5 lbs. comes standard with 8GB of ram and has good battery life. It has a 7th generation Intel Core i5 7200U which would be good for light to moderate gaming. It has a full HD display that measures 15.6" and a 1TB hard drive.

$400-$500, Windows. Best for: College, travel, web, light gaming. This Asus VivoBook is the lightest of my suggestions in this price range at 3.7 lbs. and would make an excellent choice for the college student or light gaming on the go. Apparently, there were a few issues with this model at release, but those have been sorted out at his point making this a good option for those looking for something lightweight without sacrificing computing power.

$450-$550, Windows. Best for: Travel, moderate gaming. This unit is very portable at 3.7 pounds. but lots of performance boosts over less expensive models. It also sports a 15.6" full HD display but offers a NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics card for better gaming and video. It also is the lowest price option on this list to have an SSD (256GB) and the battery should last up to 12 hours on normal use. This would be my #1 choice under $600.

$450-$550, Windows. Best for: College, moderate gaming. This VivoBook offers a lot of power in a small unit with a 15.6 " "NanoEdge Display" which makes the bezel much smaller. It also has a 256GB SSD but also offers the MX150 graphics card which is a nice bump up. It's a little heavier then some of the other units on this list at 5.3 pounds but has a very long battery life (up to 15 hours of regular usage according to the specs). This would be my #2 choice in the price range.

$600-$700, Windows. Best for: College, moderate gaming, video. This Dell offers a beautiful 17.3" HD+ backlit display which would be great for anyone doing graphics or video. It has an 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8250U processor, 8GB of RAM (expandable to 16GB) and a 1 TB HDD , It also has a DVD writer which some of the lightweight models lack. It is just over 6 lbs but it has the largest screen on the list.

$700-$800, Windows. Best for: College, moderate gaming. This Acer is a good option for someone who wants the power to play a few games or edit a video but still needs to be able to hit the road with their computer. It has a nice full HD 15.6" IPS display, a dedicated graphics card (GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB) and a 7th gen core i5 7300HQ processor. It comes with 8GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and has a battery life of almost 9 hours. Note that at almost 6 pounds, this may be a little heavy if you plan to carry it all day.

$1000-$1100, Windows). Best for: Gaming. The Predator Helios is an excellent choice for someone looking for a gaming laptop. It comes with the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM) and the 7th generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor. It has a 15.6" widescreen IPS display, 16GB of RAM and a 256GM onboard SSD. It weighs 6 pounds but is still useful on the go with a 7 hour batter life. Also, it looks really cool.

$1100-$1200, MacOS. Best for: College, travel. This is a great choice for a college aged person or someone on the go who just wants to get things done. It's ultra portable at 2.9 pound and very stylish. It features a 13.3" screen with 1440x900 resolution and an Intel HD 6000 graphics. While not the newest model available, this is my #1 choice for Mac Laptops.
